Newlands

The Newlanders are devout colonists who set out across the sunken sea, braving encounters with the Wild Islanders to settle and spread the word of the Great Father. Upon settlement they determined to create a new Holy Land far from the disbelief that was destroying their homeland. After a terrible genocide that converted or wiped out all the infidels that once lived here many years ago (aka the Shattering) the Newlanders have become a great people who offer the bounty of their god to all for only the price of their attention. Grown in perfect isolation, their world view is hardy, strong and now merciful. Heal the sick, tend to the weak and obey your god are the words that Newlanders live by. Their communities are relatively small, farming townships, centred on churches. The Newlanders are ruled by the Theocracy, the best and brightest of the church leaders, chosen by the church leaders. The Newlanders are by design isolated. Most Newlanders believe the rest of the world to be vaguely uninhabitable or somehow corrupted. The Newlands are home to two races not found anywhere else, Aasimar and Dragonkin. Aasimar were lifted from the earth during the shattering and taken to the heavenly plane, while Dragonkin were left below despite their devout worship. Aasimar are the pinnacle of Newlands society and occupy almost all the ruling positions in the Theocracy as well as holding all of the deciding votes in the selection of the new members of the Theocracy. The only Newlanders allowed to travel must spend over 10 years of study in preparation for their journey at the capital New Foundation. To the East lies the treacherous Sunken Ocean, over which the only known safe passage brings them into direct contact with the Wild Islands. To the West lies the Desert of Corruption the expanse of which has not been mapped.
