The Powers of Magic and Divinity

Magic in this world is caused by the interaction of the Aether and the Quanta within the bodies of living creatures. For most, the result of such interaction is limited, and only comes into effect when added together over the span of billions of lifeforms. Sentient life has a secondary effect on the interaction; they are able to alter the outcome. For some beings this is subtle, slightly altering the world around them to better conform to their world view {as per rationalisation} or granting them slightly better “luck” than others. Few gifted individuals are capable of changing things greatly, such as summoning fireballs, controlling the weather or healing grievous injuries. This is referred to as magic. The ability of an individual to use magic is a combination of experience and their confidence in the source of their power. Magic is considered to have three sources: Natural, Divine and Arcane. Natural magic is sourced directly from the life force. Divine magic flows through a god and is powered by belief. Arcane magic is the ability to envisage and create unnatural scenarios; it is generally learned through long years of study, but some people with strange ways of looking at the world can also perform such feats. In all cases magic cannot be used to create or destroy energy only take it from one place and alter it.

The influence of magic in the world is random. Some areas are immersed in it, others barely feel it. For some lands the full effect of the release of the wild energies is yet to be felt.

Gods interact with the world in the same way, powered by their followers. Unlike the magic of mortals, gods may create and destroy energy.
